Osumex 10-P Test for PETS

Monitor your pet for early warning signs of:

onset diabetes, liver and kidney problems, urinary tract infections

Interpretation of results from 10-P Test

Glucose
Normal dog and cat urine should be negative for glucose. There are several reasons why glucose in the urine may falsely appear elevated, so it is important that any suspicious test results be repeated, and followed (or verified) by a blood glucose test.

Billirubin
Bilirubin is a pigment made by the liver from dead or dying red blood cells. Small amounts of bilirubin may sometimes be found in the urine of healthy dogs. Bilirubin in the urine of a cat is a concern and calls for further investigation. High amounts of bilirubin in the urine can be a sign of liver disease, bile duct obstruction, or abnormal destruction of red blood cells (hemolysis).

Ketone
Normal dogs and cats should test negative for ketones. The presence of ketone in urine suggests that the body is burning fat for energy. Detectable levels may be found during physiological stress conditions such as starvation, strenous exercise, and other abnormal carbohydrate metabolism situation. High levels of ketones may indicated ketosis and while this is not considered a harmful state, it may cause the body's pH to become acidic.

Specific Gravity (SG)
Normal SG for dogs is 1.015 to 1.040. Normal SG for cats is 1.015 to 1.050. SG indicates how well the kidney is able to concentrate the urine and any abnormal reading may indicate possible renal failure.

Blood
The presence of blood in urine may indicate problems with the urinary tract. Any green spots or green colour developing in the indicator area within 40 seconds is significant and must be followed up.

pH
pH of most normal dogs and cats should have a range of 5.5 - 7.0. Some may have higher or lower values

Protein
Most pets should not have protein in their urine. However, small amounts may be detected and it is more siginificant if the urine is a diluted sample rather than a concentrated sample

Urobillinogen
This is a compound formed from bilirubin by intestinal bacteria. Normal dogs and cats have small amount of urobilinogen in their urine. The results for dogs and cats are often not reliable and difficult to interpret.

Nitrite
Nitrites are produced by some bacteria present in infections. This test may indicate neagtive false results in dogs and cats and considered inaccurate for dogs and cats

Leukocyte
The presence of leukocyte in urine suggests inflammation of the kidney and or unrinary tract . Normal urine generally would give a negative result and a tract result can be considered significant and re-tests are strongly recommended. Repeated trace results should be considered significant and followed up with a veterinarian.

Note: These tests should not be used as a conclusive diagnostic tool or evidence of diseases but more as a preliminary detection of possible health issues so that the user can consult or follow up the user's veterinarian. As with all home tests, definitive diagnostic or therapeutic decisions should not be based on a single test result..

Each Osumex 10-P Test kit consists of a test-tube, a strip contained in a pouch, colour chart to check results of the test and an insert on usage and information. Please see images below.
